If you’re looking for a fun way to keep the kids entertained these school holidays, head to the Perth Hills for Muddy Buddies — a two-day celebration of nature, play and getting gloriously muddy.

Held in the lush forests of Jarrahdale, the sell-out event draws more than 5,000 families from across Perth each year, making it one of the region’s favourite school holiday experiences.

The event takes place on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 April at Jarrahdale Oval. Across four mud-soaked sessions, kids of all ages can jump, dig, splash and slide their way through a range of hands-on activities designed to spark imagination and outdoor play.

On Friday morning, little mud-lovers aged 1–5 will get a gentle introduction to getting messy, with mini mud pits, trucks and tractors, mud kitchens, face painting, rainbow trail hunts and even a visit from the enchanting Bush Fairies.

In the afternoon, a low-sensory session offers a calmer, more inclusive experience, with reduced numbers, no loud music, sirens or flashing lights, perfect for families who prefer a more relaxed environment.

Saturday is all about full muddy madness, with a mega mud pit, obstacle courses, Mud Mountain, mud pie stations and the brand-new Mud Mania target-throwing challenge. Add in nature crafts, roaming entertainment and a DJ bringing the vibes, and you’ve got a recipe for maximum mess and maximum fun.

After all that mud-slinging action, families can refuel with food vans, a classic sausage sizzle, coffee or a well-earned ice cream.

There’s no need to worry about the mess — a wash-down station will be available onsite to rinse off before heading home. Just be sure to bring a full change of clothes (and a plastic bag for the muddy ones).
